Shopify
Rasket for Shopify connects your store to a Rasket project. Your customers arrive as contacts with their marketing consent, your products as a catalogue, and your carts, checkouts and orders as events that start flows: abandoned checkout, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, welcome, post-purchase and win-back.
Coming soon: Rasket is not in the Shopify App Store yet. This page describes the app as it will ship.
Install
- In the Shopify App Store, find Rasket and choose Install. Shopify shows the permissions the app asks for (below).
- The app opens inside your Shopify admin and asks where your store's emails should live.
- Choose Create a project for this store, or Connect an existing project if you already use Rasket.
Rasket never asks you to type your store's address. In Rasket, every Connect a store button takes you to the app's App Store page.
Create a project for this store
Rasket makes an account for the store owner's email address, and a project named after the store, and connects them. It emails a link to set a password, so you can sign in to Rasket itself later. If that address already has a Rasket account, connect an existing project instead.
Connect an existing project
Rasket opens in a new page. Sign in, pick the project and confirm. You need to be an admin of that project. A store connects to one project at a time, and a project can have more than one store.
Set up the app
The app's home in your Shopify admin is a short checklist. It shows where each step stands.
- Wait for the first sync. Rasket reads your customers, products and collections. You can close the page while it runs.
- Turn on tracking. This adds Rasket's pixel for checkouts. It runs in Shopify's sandbox and needs nothing in your theme.
- Switch on Rasket in your theme editor. Choose Open the theme editor, switch on Rasket under App embeds and save. This tracks product views and carts, and shows your sign-up forms. It does not change your theme's code.
- Add a flow. Switch one on under Store flows in the app's home, or in Rasket open Automations, then New, and choose the flow.
Tracking waits for your visitors' consent. Where your store shows a cookie banner, Rasket records nothing for a visitor until they allow analytics and marketing.
Who can be emailed
Each customer's email marketing consent in Shopify decides it. A store flow is marketing: it only ever emails a subscribed contact.
| In Shopify | In Rasket |
|---|---|
| Subscribed | Subscribed. Flows and campaigns can email them. |
| Unsubscribed | Unsubscribed. Nothing marketing reaches them. |
| Not subscribed, or pending | Never subscribed. Nothing marketing reaches them until they subscribe, in Shopify or through a Rasket form. |
| Invalid | Not brought in. |
| Redacted | Erased from Rasket. |
A contact your project already had keeps its own consent: Shopify never moves it from subscribed to never subscribed. When someone unsubscribes in Rasket, or signs up on a Rasket form on your store, Rasket records it on the customer in Shopify too. Subscribers synced from Shopify count towards your plan's marketing contacts. Never-subscribed customers do not.
Flows and email blocks
Each ready-made flow is added turned off, with its emails as drafts, so you can read and change them first.
| Flow | What it does |
|---|---|
| Abandoned checkout | Reminds a customer who started checkout and did not finish. |
| Abandoned cart | Reminds a customer who added to their cart and left. |
| Browse abandonment | Follows up on a product a customer looked at and did not buy. |
| Welcome with a discount | Greets a new subscriber to your store's newsletter with a discount. |
| Post-purchase thank-you and review | Thanks a customer after an order and asks for a review. |
| Win-back | Brings back a customer who has not ordered in a while. |
A checkout or cart reminder stops as soon as the customer buys: before each reminder, Rasket checks with your store for an order. The email editor adds four store blocks:
- Cart: the items from the cart or checkout that started the flow, with a button back to it.
- Product: one product you pick from your catalogue.
- Recommended: your best sellers, or what the customer looked at.
- Discount: a unique code for each person the email goes to, created in your store.
New subscribers can join from your storefront through Rasket's sign-up forms, which the theme editor's app embed shows.
Revenue
An order counts towards an email when the customer clicked it in the five days before ordering, or opened it the day before. You can change both windows in Rasket under Settings, then Integrations, then Shopify. Revenue shows on each flow, each campaign, and the app's home in Shopify. Test orders are kept and counted nowhere.
Connection health
Every 15 minutes Rasket compares recent orders, checkouts and customers with your store and fills in anything a missed update left out. Events filled in this way never start a flow late. When orders stop arriving, or Rasket can no longer read the store, the app's home and the Shopify settings page say so, and your project's admins get an email.
Permissions
The app reads customers' email addresses and names only. It asks for no phone numbers or addresses.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| read_customers | Brings your customers in as contacts, with their email marketing consent. |
| write_customers | To record on the customer in Shopify an unsubscribe made in Rasket, or a sign-up on a Rasket form on your store, so both agree. |
| read_orders | Orders and checkouts start and stop your flows, and count towards revenue. |
| read_fulfillments | Starts a post-purchase email when an order is fulfilled. |
| read_products | Your products and collections, for the product and cart blocks in emails. |
| write_pixels | Adds Rasket's checkout tracking pixel, which runs in Shopify's sandbox. |
| read_customer_events | Receives the checkout events that pixel reports. |
| write_discounts | Creates a unique discount code for each person an email goes to. |
| read_themes | Reads your published theme's fonts and colours, so sign-up forms can match your store. |
Uninstall and your data
- Uninstalling disconnects the store at once. Rasket forgets its access and stops every sync. Reinstalling within 48 hours reconnects it to the same project.
- 48 hours after uninstalling, Rasket deletes everything the store sent it: the catalogue, events, browsers, discount codes and the connection. Your contacts stay in the project, without their store activity.
- A customer's data request from Shopify is answered by email to your project's admins, with everything Rasket holds about that customer.
- A customer's erasure request erases the contact if your store brought it in. If the contact was in your project first, Rasket deletes only what the store added.
Store events are kept for 90 days. Rasket is your processor for your customers' data under the Data Processing Addendum, and the privacy policy says how Rasket handles it.
Billing
The Shopify App Store page lists the plans and how they are billed. A project that already pays for Rasket keeps its plan when you connect a store.
