Texts, on the same API

Order updates, codes and campaigns to US and Canadian phones, from the API you already send email with. 200 texts are included on Pro.

What you get

SMS without a second system

Texting has rules email does not. They are built in, so your code only says what to send.

  • One API for email and texts

The same key, the same idempotency, the same signed webhooks and the same logs. A text is a POST to /sms, and every rule you rely on for email holds for it too.

  • Consent with proof

SMS consent is its own record, kept with the page and the words a person agreed to. A topic subscription never counts as consent to texts.

  • STOP, HELP and START handled

A STOP stops every text from your team to that phone at once, and START undoes it. HELP gets your details back. You never write the keyword code.

  • Quiet hours by default

Marketing texts go out between 8 am and 9 pm where each person is, or the shorter hours some states set, and at most once in 16 hours. A text due at night waits for the morning.

  • Numbers and registration

Pick a toll-free number for the US and Canada, or a local one for the US. The registration carriers ask for is one form, prefilled from your account.

Getting started

From your own phone to your customers

You can send your first text before your number is approved.

  1. 1

    Test with your own phone

Verify your phone and send to it straight away, from a shared test number. Free includes 50 test texts a month.

  2. 2

    Get a number

Choose a number and send its registration. It is usually approved in 1 to 5 business days, and you can keep testing meanwhile.

  3. 3

    Send to people who agreed

Send transactional texts from your code, campaigns to a segment, or a text as a step in an automation.

Send a text with one call

The field is text. The answer says how many messages the text was and what it cost, in dollars.

Questions about texts

What does a text cost?

Every paid plan includes texts each month: 10 for every dollar of the plan. After that each message is $0.015 on Pro, down to $0.0125 on the largest Scale plans. A message is up to 160 characters (70 if it has an emoji or another special character). A longer text is sent and billed as several messages.

Which countries can I text?

The United States and Canada. A picture message reaches US numbers and counts as 3 messages.

Do I pay for texts that fail?

No. You pay for texts that arrive. A failed, skipped or canceled text is never charged, and texts people send you are free.

What does a number cost?

Your first toll-free number is included on paid plans. Each extra one is $2 a month. A local US number is $2 a month, plus $15 a month for your business's registration.

Do texts use my email allowance?

No. Texts have their own monthly allowance, their own spend cap and their own line on your invoice.
