An API key texts only when you give it SMS access, chosen per key, so an email key cannot start sending texts.

Before you text. What people ask first.

Can I send a text before my number is approved?

Yes, to your own phones. Verify a phone and texts to it go out straight away from Rasket's shared test number, marked [Test], while your own number's registration is reviewed. That usually takes 1 to 5 business days.

What is the difference between a transactional and a marketing text?

A transactional text is one a person needs because of something they did, such as a code or an order update, and it is the default. A marketing text needs the contact's SMS consent, goes out only in their daytime, and a person gets at most one from you in 16 hours.

Are my SMS contacts the same as my email contacts?

Yes. A contact can have an email address, a phone or both, and the same segments and automations reach either. Consent to texts is recorded on its own: subscribing to an email topic never counts as agreeing to texts.

Where do replies go?

Replies are listed in SMS → Inbound, sent to your endpoints as sms.received webhooks, and forwarded by email if you set an address in your SMS settings. STOP, HELP and START are answered for you.

Can an AI agent send texts for me?

Only if you connect it to the MCP server's sms toolset, with ?toolset=sms on the URL. The default connection has no tool that sends a text, because a text costs money.
